Boyfriend Detox Day 42
Morning everyone! I have been thinking lately, because i am toxically optimistic, that my blog was getting a bit too heavy. Too serious, and I really want it to be as light hearted as possible given my personality and the content. After all if I take this journey and am not happy at the end of it what was the point ... the whole idea is to be happy and healthy alone. And to laugh along the way. SO ... in that same vein I was thinking I would do "Fun story Fridays" I have joked for years that I've had so many bad dates I could write a book. And once I was happily married I fully intended to write a book called, "stories from behind the chair" focusing on funny antidotes that happen as a barber/bad dating stories. But why wait. So here it is for your reading pleasure and Im happy to be the one who had to experience these dates if it puts a smile on your face. No names shall be used to protect the 'not so innocent', and no Susan's were harmed in the making of these stories. They are however 100% true.
Enjoy!

Episode One.
I don't date clients. It's kind of a rule ... not of the barbershop but just a personal one. Ive always tried to keep those two worlds separate. However, one of my coworker's regular clients was pretty cute. He seemed to be interested. He flirted for about a year every time he was in for a haircut. Eventually he caught me in a moment when I was single and asked me out. I gave in, after all he wasn't my client so if it went badly nothing was lost. I don't typically have a first date at my house but since I knew him relatively well at this point I had a feeling of comfort and safety so we made a plan to watch a movie at my place.
I cleaned the house feverishly all day ... and cleaned myself up with some of the same fervour.
Around 6 the doorbell rang and I jumped up to welcome my new love interest. He greeted me with a smile ... Now you never know really if the beginning of the date should be met with a handshake or a less formal hug, but as my eyes made my way down to his hands to see which way this one was going to go I spotted a not so inconspicuous laundry basket under his right arm. He grinned. "My dads washing machine is broken, do you mind if I do a load of laundry while we watch the movie?" I was taken aback, but I understood he was a trucker and away a lot, I was more concerned why a 43 year old would have to use his fathers washing machine in the first place. SO ... I nodded in agreement, "of course". Washing and drying clothes takes about 2 hours start to finish so the cycle was complete just in line with the end of the movie and the end of the date. SIDEBAR ... I did get up half way through to make him a snack and to switch the clothes from the washer to the dryer. Making sure to add a dryer sheet like a good hostess should.
As the credits rolled I helped him fold his underwear (seeing underwear on a first date is usually a no no, however in this case they weren't on a man so its okay) As I hung one of his button up dress shirts on a hanger he grabbed it from my hands. I looked at him in shock and he must have been able to tell I was startled because he offered an immediate explanation. "The buttons face the right on the hanger .... Not the left." Being scolded was an interesting route for him to take on the first date. Not only does my OCD not extend that far as to the direction my shirts face in the closet, but he could have switched it when he got home. I thought wow if he is this intense on the direction I hang his shirts. How passionate is he going to be about how I scrub his toilet on date two?
First and last date.
See ya next friday ;)
